Nexion is not a typical startup, and this is not a typical job post. We’re on a mission to eliminate the inefficiencies of digital relationships and redefine how networks are managed and activated at scale. If you’ve ever felt that online connections and relationship management tools are fundamentally broken – riddled with friction, lost opportunities, and shallow interactions – you’re not alone. Nexion was founded to tackle this problem at the systemic level by redesigning the very architecture of digital networking.
Our Mission: Reimagining How Humans Connect
In today’s world, we manage hundreds of “contacts” across platforms, yet activating those networks when it counts remains painfully inefficient. Valuable introductions are missed, context gets lost, and relationships turn transactional. Nexion’s mission is to solve these inefficiencies in digital relationships and empower people to truly leverage their networks. We believe that managing relationships should be as intuitive as breathing and as scalable as the internet itself.
This isn’t about adding one more social feature or a smarter CRM on top of existing structures. It’s about fundamentally restructuring how digital relationships work – from data models to user experience – so that genuine connection and network activation happen seamlessly. No one deliberately designed today’s networking tools to fall short; their shortcomings persist because they’re intrinsically systems problems, born of the very way these platforms are built. Nexion approaches relationship management as a systems-level challenge, redesigning the underlying structure rather than treating surface symptoms. By rethinking the problem from first principles, we aim to catalyze a new paradigm for how people connect, share opportunities, and collaborate at scale.
A Systems-Thinking Approach (Tackling Root Causes)
At Nexion, we’re systems thinkers. We know that to fix something as pervasive as digital relationship management, we have to go deep. Our approach is inspired by the insight that persistent problems – like the fragmentation and inefficiency of online networks – require addressing root causes. We are interrogating assumptions and asking bold questions: What if your network wasn’t just a list of contacts, but a living system that intelligently grows with you? What if activating that network – for advice, introductions, opportunities – was instantaneous and richly contextual?
Solving this means grappling with complex systems: graph databases, algorithms for relevance, privacy-preserving data sharing, and human behavior modeling. It’s a fusion of technology and sociology. We aren’t intimidated by complexity; we embrace it as a competitive advantage. By designing Nexion’s platform with rigorous systems architecture, we’re ensuring that our solution isn’t a band-aid – it’s a foundational reboot of digital relationship infrastructure. For an engineer who loves big, fundamental challenges, it’s hard to imagine a more exciting problem-space.
Who We’re Looking For – The Pioneer Engineer
We’re searching for our first engineer (Founding Engineer) – someone exceptional enough to meet the enormity of this mission. This is not a narrowly defined role; it’s a calling for a versatile builder and visionary architect who will work hand-in-hand with the founders to bring Nexion’s vision to life.
If you are that engineer, here’s what you’ll do at Nexion:
Who might be a fit? Perhaps you’ve built scalable platforms or complex systems before (from 0 to 1, or better yet, a startup you helped propel). You might have deep expertise in algorithms, distributed systems, or database design. More importantly, you have a knack for solving nebulous, multi-layered problems. You’re the kind of engineer who sees structure where others see chaos – who can envision the elegant core of a solution through the fog of ambiguity. If you love the idea of owning a product’s success from the deepest database constraint to the final pixel of the UI, this role is for you.
Not for Everyone – Run Toward Hard Problems
Let’s be upfront: Nexion is not for everyone. And that’s by design. The challenges we’re tackling are immensely hard, and the standards we set for ourselves are unapologetically high. We’re looking for someone who thrives on difficulty and relentlessly pursues bold ideas. To borrow a line from a recent viral recruiting campaign, this is “hard work, on hard problems, on hard mode”.If you’re looking for a comfortable 9-to-5 with neatly defined tasks, Nexion isn’t the place for you.
However, if reading about our mission makes your heart beat a little faster – if you get excited thinking about architecting a brand-new digital ecosystem – then you just might have the right wiring for this team. We want someone who runs toward the hardest problems, not away from them. At Nexion, you’ll be diving into uncharted waters daily. One day you might be debugging a graph traversal algorithm that no one has tried before, the next you’re brainstorming how to visualize complex relationship data in a simple, humane way. This requires grit, creativity, and comfort with uncertainty. It’s not easy – but for the right person, it’s the dream opportunity to do the most impactful work of your career.
We won’t micromanage you with a thick rulebook. We’re uncompromisingly selective about bringing in only those who are deeply aligned with our mission and capable of autonomous excellence. If you join, it’s because we believe in you to own major pieces of Nexion’s success. With that trust comes freedom – and responsibility.
In short: Don’t work at Nexion for a cushy job or a quick exit. Work at Nexion because you crave a monumental challenge and a chance to reinvent how millions connect. Work here because the mission resonates in your bones, and because not working on it would feel like a missed calling.
Why Join Now – The Once-in-a-Lifetime Opportunity
Timing is everything. Joining Nexion as the first engineer means joining at Day 0 of a world-changing journey. It’s an opportunity to be a founding team member of what we intend to become a defining company in this space. Here’s why this opportunity stands out:
Finally, consider the exclusivity of this moment. There will ever be only one “first engineer” at Nexion. This is your chance to claim that spot. Years from now, when Nexion is powering the world’s networks and redefining how business and personal relationships flourish, you can say: I helped build that from the ground up. If you’ve read this far and feel that unique mix of curiosity, excitement, and urgency (yes, urgency – because we’re moving quickly, and we hope you will too), then we want to hear from you.
If you’re intrigued or have questions, reach out to us now. Even if your resume doesn’t neatly check every box – we care more about what you’ve built and what you’re capable of. Send us a note at founders@thenexion.com with why you’re excited about this mission (bonus: share an idea or two about what you think is broken in today’s networks). We’ll get back to you immediately, because when we see a potentially great fit, we act fast.
Curiosity: Still on the fence? That’s okay – this is a lot to take in. We invite you to start a conversation with us. Let’s chat about the kind of problems you love to solve and see if it lines up with what we’re doing. No formal interview, just an exploratory talk with our founders. Worst case, you’ll gain a new perspective on this space; best case, you find the challenge you’ve been waiting for.
Exclusivity: Remember, this role isn’t in “open hiring” for long. We’re talking to select candidates who we think could be game-changers. If the mission excites you, don’t wait – we intend to finalize our founding engineer hire soon, and we’d hate to miss each other.
Mission-driven motivation: At Nexion, every single person is driven by the mission. If you join us, it won’t be because of perks or prestige – it will be because you believe in building a better way for people to connect and you see yourself as critical to making it happen. That sense of shared purpose is our most powerful asset.
We can’t promise it will be easy, but we can guarantee it will be deeply rewarding and unlike any other job out there. If that speaks to you, let’s talk.
The base salary for this full-time position ranges from $200,000 to $400,000 USD annually, plus equity.
In addition to salary and equity, the total compensation package includes additional benefits and incentives, which will be shared upon extending an employment offer.
Onwards,
The Nexion Team
